CSIR‐NAL, a leading aerospace laboratory in India, has established sophisticated national facilities for the research and development of flight vehicles. Its main programme focuses on the design, prototype development, flight testing and certification of small‐ and medium‐sized civil aircrafts. In this direction, CSIR‐NAL is developing a 14‐seater civil aircraft, SARAS. The entire wing and empennage of the SARAS aircraft are being developed using composites. One of the main components of the horizontal tail is a bottom integrated skin. The entire bottom substructure (5.1m x 1m), which consists of the skin, 2 spars, 11 ribs and 8 stringers, was co‐cured in a single operation.
