NASA, ISRO chiefs discuss cooperation

Chief of United States space agency National Aeronautics and Space Administration Mr Charles F.Bolden Jr. and his Indian counterpart Dr K. Radhakrishnan met at Ahmedabad and discussed civil cooperative activities between the two agencies.  Potential areas of future cooperation also figured in the talks, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) said. The meeting came at Mr. Bolden’s visit to the ISRO Space Applications Centre. It was his first visit to any ISRO centre after taking over as NASA Administrator in July 2009. Only two of his predecessors have visited ISRO in the last 40 years. Mr. Bolden, in a talk relayed across ISRO centres on NASA’s space programme, focussed on its new asteroid initiative besides future space forays, including to Mars. The asteroid plan will identify asteroid types and send a mission to capture and redirect an asteroid into an orbit close to Earth so that astronauts can visit it.
