Mars Orbiter is on course, says ISRO chairman

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman Dr K Radhakrishnan said that the Mars Orbiter is proceeding towards its destination without glitches. “The Mars Orbiter space craft is in good health. On the first of December we expect the space craft will move from the earth orbit toward Mars. That is the main action”, he told reporters at the airport. He said after leaving the earth orbit it will be moving towards Mars and reach the required destination in September 2014.The ISRO chairman arrived here from Bangalore en route to Sriharikota. Dr Radhakrishnan said the mars Orbiter was now at a height of 1.95 lakh kilometre from the earth. Asked about the GLSV, which failed to takeoff in August due to a leak in the valve, he said that the satellite is almost ready for launch. “We are now assembling the vehicle. The first stage has already been assembled. And by December the vehicle will be launched”, he added. Dr Radhakrishnan refused to comment when asked about senior scientist and Bharat Rant recipient Dr C N R Rae’s remarks about the lack of adequate government funds for scientific research.
