ISRO prepared for cyclone Phailin

Even as the coasts of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha brace for cyclone Phailin, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is geared up to provide necessary support to agencies on ground. Speaking at the diamond jubilee celebrations of the Bangalore Management Association, ISRO Chairman, Dr K Radhakrishnan said the ISRO, through its Disaster Management Support (DMS) programme, is assisting with imaging and communication‐related support services. “Data has been provided to the concerned agencies two days ahead of Phailin hitting the mainland so that action can be taken on ground,” he said. The ISRO had earlier provided support through its INSAT‐1D imaging satellite when a class 5 ‘super cyclone’ hit coastal Odisha in 1999.
