Dr V.K. Saraswat, Chief of Defence Research and Development Organisation, said that Indigenously developed Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas has entered into final operational clearance phase and will be inducted into the Indian Air Force by December 2013. Speaking to presspersons after participating in the Graduation Day programme at the Siddaganga Institute of Technology. Dr. Saraswat said that Hindustan Aeronautics Limited has begun production of the Light Combat Aircraft. Dr. Saraswat said that the ballistic missile defence is. a major programme of the DRDO and have completed the phase 1 which has given the capability to engage ballistic missiles of enemies of having ranges up to 2,000 km. In phase 2, he said missiles to engage more distant targets will be developed.
