City students assemble a mini-drone in under 2 min

A group of students are claiming to be able to assemble a plane in less than that time. Hold on, we are talking about pint-sized drones. The students set a record in this year’s SAE Aero Design Competition, held at Atlanta in the US, by assembling a plane in one minute and 24 seconds. Not just that, the team from Jain University also won second place for lifting the highest payload in the micro class category. The drone which weighs 350 grams could lift a payload of1.3kg.Theteamgotlaurelsinother categories third place in the highest payload fraction in the micro class and fifth place overall in the micro class category out of 28 global teams. It was not easy going for the team though. There are three rounds in the competition. Our plane crashed in the first round, destroying all our hopes. Luckily, the plane was not damaged. Once we recovered from that, there was no looking back, said Mr B G Harshavardhana, who is the lead (project management) for Team Drone.
