HAL chopper undergoes sea trials

Another milestone is around the corner for the indigenous attack helicopter currently under development. The Light Combat Helicopter (LCH), developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL),is currently undergoing sea trials off Chennai. They commenced last week and will last for about 10 days. They will evaluate the effects of flying the chopper at sea. The Indian Air Force and the Army are looking at inducting 150 LCHs. The trials are being overseen by Wing Commander Mr Unni Pillai, chief test pilot, HAL. All earlier trials were carried out in and around Bangalore, which is about 3,000 ft above sea level. Now, were testing it at about 500 ft. The performance has been good and no surprises so far, said Mr Pillai.
