Simply too fast for our PM: Supercomputer of CSIR-4PI

Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) director general Dr Samir Brahmachari met Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to invite him to launch the ‘fourth fastest supercomputer in India’ in Bangalore. However, insiders claim that the machine (speed: 360 tera flops) has been up and running since February 2013. The prime minister is required only for the formal launch. The Centre for Mathematical Modelling and Computer Simulation (CMMACS) has been renamed as CSIR‐Fourth Paradigm Institute (CSIR‐4PI) and houses this supercomputer. CMMACS was renamed as it would now be involved in the fourth paradigm of scientific discoveries and innovations. The first paradigm is observation of nature, second is experiments and the third is simulation. The fourth paradigm is where the three are unified.
