RV College of Engineering students bag NASA award

BANGALORE: “Team Vyoma” of RV College of Engineering has taken flight with a breakthrough invention. It bagged the Nasa Systems Engineering Award this year, from among 75 teams, for designing and building a highly unconventional unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV).  It participated in SAE AeroDesign West Competition held in California, US from April 12 to 14, 2013. A team of four members Mr Vignesh Pai, Mr Maithreya JS, Mr Paneendra Bhat and Mr Srihari Sridhar — accompanied by Prof RS Kulkarni, travelled to California to showcase their UAV.  It also emerged among the top 5 teams in the Best Design Report and Best Flight Score categories. “It’s a dream come true for us because we had only been recognized by Nasa until last year but this is the first time we have actually won an award,” said Mr Naveen BL, leader of Team Vyoma. “Everyone associated with this project worked extremely hard for its success.”  The team was also the first from Asia to participate in the International Aero Design Competition held in the US in 2008.
