DRDO appoints Chief Controllers

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has elevated two of its tops scientists as Chief Controllers (Research and Development) in Aero and Life Sciences stream. According to a press release issued here, Dr K Tamilmani, scientist, and chief executive, Centre for Military Airworthiness and Certification (CEMILAC), one of the establishments of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Ministry of Defence has been appointed as the Chief Controller (R&D), Aeronautics. Graduate in Aeronautical Engineering at MIT, Chennai, Dr Tamilmani served as the Director, Centre for Air Borne Systems (CABS) before being appointed as the Chief executive (Airworthiness), CEMILAC. He is recipient of many awards and honours for his work including the ‘DRDO outstanding contribution award’ in recognition of rotodome modification and flight testing of HAL HS 748 aircraft. He also received the ‘Prof VM Ghagte Award’ for his contributions to the indigenous Air Borne Early Warning (AEW) programme by the National Aeronautical Society of India (AeSI). Dr Manas K Mandal, Outstanding Scientist / Scientist ‘H’, Director, Defence Institute of Psychological Research (DIPR), one of the establishment of Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO), Ministry of Defence has been appointed as the Chief Controller (R&D)Life Sciences. Dr Mandal has obtained his postgraduate and doctorate degrees from Calcutta University. He served as a professor of Psychology at the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, IIT, Kharagpur. He has been the recipient of several awards and various research fellowships at national and international levels, such as, International Scientific Exchange Award (Canada), Fulbright Fellowship (USA), Shastri Fellowship (Canada), Seymour Kety grant (USA), Career Award (India), Young Scientist Award (India), DRDO Spin off Technology Award, National Association of Medical Sciences Award, etc. Dr Mandal and his team was awarded ‘Agni Award for Excellence in Self reliance’ for the contribution towards the development of ‘Computerized Pilot Selection System.’
