India’s unmanned aerial vehicle drone market illuminated by new report

India first introduced its long range line of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) / drones in early 1990s for surveillance and reconnaissance activities. India’s drone market growth is buoyed by several factors such as increasing terrorist activities, border security, rising defense budget & FDI, favorable government policies on import, and increased domestic manufacturing campaign for defense aircrafts & military equipment. After China and Japan, India is emerging as one of the key market for drones in Asia-Pacific region. India is amongst one the largest importers for defense equipment worldwide. After the introduction of “Make in India” campaign by the Government of India during 2014, India is forecast to embark the manufacturing of next generation defense equipment in the coming years on account of growing FDIs in defense sector and growing partnerships. According to 6Wresearch, India UAV/Drone Market is anticipated to reach $421 million by 2021. Mini/micro drones are witnessing growth with its deployment in both military and law enforcement applications. In India, mini drones have been categorized into three types i.e. quadcopter, hexacopter and fixed-wing drones, where quadcopter accounts for majority of volume shipment. Fixed-wing drones are medium range drones and are primarily being used for military application. India and U.S. would jointly manufacture AeroVironment’s “Raven Drone” (a medium range drone) ranging from 5mi and above from 2015 onwards in Bengaluru based production facility. On the contrary, quadcopter & hexacopter drones are short range drones, which have been used in applications pertaining to law enforcement and events. Before Directorate General of Civil Aviation’s (DGCA) ban on the use of drones for civil application in 2014 it was largely deployed for applications related to events and photography. “India’s mini/micro drone segment to witness increase in adoption after the expected DGCA regulation in 2014. The regulation would drive the adoption retail and hospitality applications” said Prijo Samuel, Senior Research Analyst at 6Wresearch. In India’s drone market, Israel is the largest supplier for drone systems & equipment, primarily for military application, followed by Taiwan, Japan, China, South Korea and U.S. India has already attained Israel’s Heron UAV (Long Range Drones – Medium Altitude & Long Endurance). India also owns “Israel’s Searcher I & II, Defence Research & Development Organisation’s (DRDO) Rustom-1 & Rustom-H and DRDO Nishant. India Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV)/Drone Market (2015–2021)” provides in-depth analysis with 74 figures and 13 tables. 6Wresearch announces the release of most anticipated “India UAV/drone Market (2015-2021)” report covering UAV/drone types, range types, applications, market trends and upcoming projects. The report estimates and forecast market by UAV/drone types such as Mini–UAVs (Low Altitude-Low Endurance), Medium Range UAVs (Low Altitude-Medium Endurance), Long Range UAVs (Medium Altitude-Long Endurance), and Long Range UAVs (High Altitude-Long Endurance). The report also segregates market into different range types for Mini-UAVs (under 3mi & 4mi-10mi) and Medium Range UAVs (5mi-10mi & 11mi-20mi).
