The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on Tuesday appointed Mrs J Manjula as Director of Defence Avionics Research Establishment (DARE), Bangalore. She becomes the first woman director of a Bangalore-based DRDO lab and succeeds Mr P Soundarrajan, who retired last month. An expert in integrated electronic warfare, Mrs Manjula, designated as an ‘Outstanding Scientist’ of DRDO, said her priority will be to indigenise the various electronic warfare systems for the Indian Air Force. “In the next two years, we will work towards building more Indian-made critical systems for various assets of IAF,” she said.
