Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL) has posted its best ever turnover of Rs.15,180 crore in 2013-14. The turnover is an increase of 6 per cent over its last year’s figure of Rs.14,324 crore.
38 per cent rise in operating profit
The operating profit of Rs.1,651 crore is 38.3 per cent higher than the Rs.1,194 crore it posted in 2012-13. “We crossed the psychological barrier of Rs.15,000 crore. We are preparing the company for 2020 and beyond,’’ HAL Chairman Mr R. K. Tyagi said in a release. Describing production in 2013-14 as ‘pretty good’, he said during the year, HAL produced 60 aircraft and helicopters, received the phase 2 initial operational clearance for the Light Combat Aircraft and filed a record 209 patents. During 2013-14, its own project, the Intermediate Jet Trainer, completed sea-level, night-time and high-altitude trials. The first HAL-built Hawk Advanced Jet Trainer was inducted by the Navy’s INS Dega, Visakhapatnam. Its Dhruv multi-purpose helicopter was specially re-fitted for mineral exploration and deployed as ‘Garuda Vasudha‘. HAL also contributed to two key projects of the Indian Space Research Organisation by making structures for the Mars Orbiter Mission and the crew module structure for the Human Spaceflight Programme. The Dhruv played a critical role in rescue and relief operations taken up during the Uttarakhand floods of July last.
