Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. has announced that it has set the ball rolling for the country’s first full-fledged aerospace university. HAL would spearhead the effort to meet the long-felt and future needs of the growing aeronautical sector, a company release said. The Mr B.K. Chaturvedi committee on restructuring HAL had recommended such a move either on its own or with universities, it said. An aerospace industry and academia conclave, called by HAL Chairman R.K. Tyagi and chaired by Mr S. G. Dhande, former Director of IIT-Kanpur, on Monday brainstormed ways of setting it up. The participants included Dr Prahlada, Vice-Chancellor, Defence Institute of Advanced Technologies, Pune; Mr H. Maheshappa, Vice-Chancellor, VTU, Belgaum, senior HAL officials, experts from IITs, IIMs and universities.
