KANPUR: The HAL authorities have signed an MoU with IIT-Kanpur for setting-up faculty chair at IIT-K. Senior officials from HAL visited IIT-Kanpur HAL for doing the needful. Secretary (defence production), Mr GC Pati visited Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) Transport Aircraft Division along with Dr RK Tyagi, chairman and VM Chamola, director, HAL. After conducting inspection in HAL, the officials reached IIT-Kanpur. During their visit to IIT-K, the HAL officials signed a MoU for setting-up faculty chair at IIT-Kanpur. The step has been taken with an aim to promote research, development and academic work in emerging technologies. “The MoU will facilitate government programmes and training modules for capacity building of HAL. We welcome the collaboration of IIT-Kanpur,” said Mr Pati. Director, IIT-Kanpur, Professor Indranil Manna expressed his happiness on association with HAL and said the institute will appoint distinguished academician as professors to the HAL chair. The students from IIT-Kanpur will get a chance to visit HAL and Aircraft Maintenance Division there. The students will also take up projects to study about aircrafts. The senior officials of HAL and researchers will be taking classes of the students. An advisory committee of HAL and IIT-Kanpur representatives will oversee the functioning of HAL chair and periodically review the functioning. The HAL has also signed MoU with IIT-Roorkee, IIT-Madras and IISc Bangalore. The dignitaries held a meeting with the officials and employees of HAL and reviewed various ongoing projects pertaining to Dornier, Avro, HPT IJT and MTA at HAL premises. The dignitaries appreciated the expertise available and the work being done by the division to cater to the need of various defence organisation including Army, Air Force and Indian Navy.
