LCA to meet its Dec 2014 deadline

Bangalore: Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) will meet its deadline, the Centre has assured. Minister of state for defence Mr Jitendra Singh said six months ago the LCA project was dogged by issues relating to the aircraft wheel and also overheating of the breaks. However, the aircraft will meet its December 2014 deadline, he added. After reviewing the progress of LCA and the Intermediate Jet Trainer, he said there has been progress in the development of both projects. Yes, both the projects have been delayed and there has been some slippage. But there has been considerable progress since my review six months ago, said Mr Singh. All the problems have been resolved; the aircraft has clocked in lot more hours of flying. We will have the Initial Operation Clearance-2 by November and the Final Operation Clearance by December next year, he said. The incidents of incursions by the Chinese Army across the LAC would be taken up with China at the highest level, Mr Singh said. We want to have good relationships with our neighbours. Defence minister Mr AK Antony recently visited China. Any incident would be taken up at the highest level. That is the standard operating procedure that we follow, said Mr Singh.
