Dr V.G. Sekaran, chief designer of long range missile Agni‐V and Director of the Advanced Systems Laboratory (ASL), has been appointed as Chief Controller R&D (Missiles & Strategic Systems), DRDO and Programme Director, Agni. According to a release, Dr. Sekaran, is one of the core members of the Ballistic Missile Programme. His pioneering contributions and research in solid propellant rocket motors is now the main thrust and backbone of the long range missile system. After graduating in mechanical engineering, he did M.E. in aeronautical engineering from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He was recipient of visiting studentship at Queen’s University where he completed Ph.D in aeronautical engineering in 1981 and was subsequently awarded Post Doctoral Research Fellow at the University of Southampton.
