GE Aviation unveils configuration data exchange to optimise maintenance

GE Aviation has launched Configuration Data Exchange (CDE) for aviation industry to drive asset productivity and maintenance optimisation. It will work with the $13-billion Capgemini to bring the CDE to the market, and for implementation services. The CDE launched at the GE Digital’s Minds and Machines here is the foundation of GE’s Intelligence Fleet offering that will enable customers to achieve insights into parts life management, service bulletin compliance, advanced monitoring and diagnostics, inventory planning and maintenance optimisation. For an MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul) this means better customer integration, increased productivity and advanced service offerings, said an official of Capgemini. Today, over 100 airlines covering 10,000 aircraft are GE Aviation Digital Solution’s customers for such services as flight and fuel analytics, navigation services, airline operations management and planning and recovery. The CDE will bring disparate systems together and will help reduce the $4-billion annual spend on manually managing data within airlines, said Jim Daily, Vice-President, and Chief Digital Officer, GE Aviation. Disparate maintenance and engineering systems across the industry, and millions of paper and PDF records, have long been identified as a barrier to reducing operating costs and improve asset utilisation. Talking to newspersons on the sidelines of the Minds and Machines, Randall A Cozzens, Vice-President, Capgemini US, said that GE annually contributes nearly $250 million of revenue for the company and is one of the largest and strategic accounts for Capgemini.
