New Delhi: India is making great progress in the field of space and its space program is definitely making waves. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has been doing everything to ensure that India makes its presence known among the list of countries which are established space achievers. ISRO has made us proud on many levels, but this time, it is an Indian space start-up that is making news. In a giant leap for India’s space program, a private company by the name of Team Indus, is aiming to be India’s first space company to send a rover to the moon and they have also successfully managed to acquire a launch board for that too! The launch vehicle in question is none other than ISRO’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV). ISRO confirmed the reports by stating that Team Indus is buying the launch at commercial rates. Along with the fulfilment of this dream, this could also be their big chance to win the coveted Google Lunar XPRIZE. The Google Lunar XPRIZE is a competition that was announced in 2007 and offers a whopping $20 million as the first prize to the first privately funded teams to land a robot on the moon that successfully travels more than 500 meters and transmits back high-definition images and videos. Team Indus is a Bengaluru-based space company that harbours a diverse group of around 100 people. Among the 30-odd contenders for the prize from around the world, only Team Indus has procured a rocket contract for a functional launcher.
