The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) is to launch a Technology Development and Transfer (TDTC) a market oriented programme under the Component Two of the Ghana Skills and Technology Development project. The CSIR-TDTC project seeks to bridge the gap between Ghana’s Research and the private sector through the implementation of an improved technology development and transfer system. The CSIR-TDTC project to be launched on August 19 is funded by the World Bank and being implemented under the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation is on the general theme: “Bridging the Gap between Research and Private sector in Ghana”. A statement to the Ghana News Agency in Accra signed by Dr George O. Essegbey CSIR Director explained that the overall goal of the CSIR-TDTC project was to ensure that research and development outputs or innovations addressed private sector needs. It also seeks to focus on challenges and ultimately enhance productivity for socio-economic development of Ghana. The project has three broad objectives: to establish a private –sector oriented programme based on institutional incentive scheme that encourage the providers to respond effectively to the technology demand from the private- sector within the priority areas of the CSIR. It is also to develop and implement a structured model for engaging the private sector in partnerships for technology development, appropriation and transfer from the CSIR. The third is to develop capacity on technology transfer that enhances knowledge and skills of the TDTC staff, the researchers and other relevant staff whilst also addressing the technology adoption capacity needs of the private sectors entrepreneurs. The project will also lead to the creation of a system or platform for intensive research-industry interaction including organization of technology fairs, business meetings and online discussions via a dedicated website.
